Xbox 360s Stolen In Van Heist
Which is the only next generation games console that is going to have stocks aplenty for UK gamers this Christmas? Well unfortunately the correct answer now is none. It was to be the Xbox 360, out for a year already and gearing up for the important 2nd year sales push. But last week there were 2 separate lorry loads of 360s stolen on their way to retail outlets, and this could hit the potential Microsoft consumer hard.

Between the 2 robberies, there have been over 4,000 consoles stolen by criminals, which equates to about £1,000,000 worth of brand new valuable hardware snatched from under our noses. This will not only hit Microsoft hard but also leave a lot of kids and adults miserable come Christmas day. The Ps3 launch has been put back to at least March over here, meaning Sony will miss yet another holiday season to push their wares. Nintendo meanwhile seem to be on to a winner with the Wii which is due to be released on December 8th. Pre-Orders started last week and apparently sold out in ultra quick time on Amazon.co.uk as well as other major retailers. The Wii is the console that is getting the buzz right now, beating out the 2 gaming behemoths of Sony and Microsoft for newspaper space.
This is going to be one lean year for anyone wanting to jump generations in the UK. I suspect most of us will be sticking to our trusty Ps2s and handheld consoles (which are still leading sales) until Britain catches up with the US and has the stocks available for a true roll out. Until then, beware anyone offering you a console “off the back of a lorry. You’ll know exactly where it’s come from.
