Wogan & Hammond Fight For ‘Richard & Judy’ Slot

Last November, Richard and Judy shocked every student and OAP in the UK when they announced that they would be giving up their daily teatime Channel 4 show. They decided not to renew their contract when it came to an end in 2008, in order to pursue new ventures.
They have since announced a new show on a new look UKTV channel, which sounds like it’ll be exactly the same as their Channel 4 show, which was in turn, exactly like This Morning.
It’s not yet known which channel the new show will be on, but with UKTV already having rebranded UKTV G2 as Dave, a move which I discussed and obviously celebrated last September, it could be an old channel given a brand new face.
Judy Finnegan said:
“When we announced our decision to leave our current television series after seven years, we were very touched by the number of people - friends, family, guests, viewers and broadcasters - who told us how much they wanted to see us continuing making programmes together.”
I’m afraid I won’t be following them over to the new channel, as after 20 years of doing the same dull crap, I think I’ve had enough of the pair, and want to see someone new doing something innovative. But what will be taking over Richard and Judy’s old timeslot on Channel 4?
I’d rather not think about either Richard or Judy’s slot, but I will do, on this occasion, just for my readers.
Digital Spy is reporting that Terry Wogan, and Richard Hammond are currently favourites to take over the 5pm teatime slot. Both are currently said to be making pilots for shows, one of which will be chosen.
The veteran Radio 2 broadcaster, Terry Wogan, is thought to be trialling a new general knowledge quiz, while Top Gear presenter Richard Hammond, who survived a near fatal crash in a rocket car last year, is trialling a chat show.
I personally hope they go with Hammond, as not only is he younger, and funnier than Wogan, I think a chat show works better in the slot. We really don’t need another general knowledge game show, as every channel now has at least one, trying to recreate the success of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire back in the day.
