What Happens after Dr Who?
Missing The Ninth Doctor by Elisa

The other evening, I had a friend over who had yet to see any of the new Doctor Who. As you may imagine, I was more than willing to get her started at the beginning with the Ninth Doctor as played by Christopher Eccleston. We managed to fit the first six episodes into the evening, in between breaks for tea and sustenance. My friend had such a good time she wants to come back soon to watch the rest of the first series. For my part, I remembered all over again why it was that I miss the Ninth Doctor.

Now, don’t get me wrong, I adore David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor, and I hope that he stays with the part for a long time. But there’s just something about Eccleston’s leather coat wearing, brooding Doctor. If only we’d had two series of him! Sigh. He redefined Doctor Who for a new generation, and then moved on.
I know that he has gone on to play a part on Heroes, but at this point I am so far behind on that show I’m just going to have to give in and buy the DVD of the first season and enjoy his characterization of Claude without commercials. Thankfully, the IMDB has a couple of upcoming projects listed for him. It seems that he is playing Dr. Jekyll in a movie by the name of “New Orleans, Mon Amour that is due sometime in 2008 on the big screen. (Not much information is available on the plot of this one, by the way.)
This is all well and good, but the project that I am most excited about is due on the big screen 5 October 2007. Christopher Eccleston is playing the Dark Rider in the adaptation of Susan Cooper’s “The Dark is Rising. Yes, that’s right, he’s playing the lead baddie. And while I will always prefer to watch him playing a hero, let’s just say that the thought of watching him play a part from one of my favorite books of all time makes me rather pleased. Okay. Actually, it gives me chills.
If I can’t watch him as The Doctor any more, I suppose that I’ll take what I can get.
