Prince William Splits Up With Kate
It seems Ms Middleton, Prince William’s long term girlfriend will not be becoming a princess after all (that is unless Harry cracks on to her). It was announced on Saturday that the couple had reached an amicable agreement to end the 2 year relationship.
The Sun newspaper broke the story and since then there has been intense speculation over the reasons and timing of the break up. The main focus of attention is a supposed high level secret summit which took place between senior members of the royal family. It’s alleged that Prince William didn’t want to commit to Kate, and instead was happy with the way things were. The Queen (William’s grandmother) is reported to have told him “You can’t string her along for ever”.
It was thought for a while that the two could be near to announcing an engagment, but that seems to have just been rumours, as it seems the two had been growing apart for a while. Maybe it was the intense media speculation and attention that proved too much for the high profile young couple in the end.

Certainly the stories being printed by Britain’s Sunday newspapers are conflicting at best, with one suggesting that William felt it was too early for a commitment of that level, preferring to wait until he was 28 or 30 before getting married. But Wills, how do you know you’ll meet someone else you love by then?
Parallels have been drawn with his father Prince Charles, who married the late Princess Diana, then lady Spencer when he was 33. It’s very well known and documented that this was more a marriage of convenience than love, with the royal family considering it a bad choice of partner at the time and since. That relationshp and marriage ended in divorce in 1996.
So, have senior royals stepped in to avoid another disastrous coupling for an heir apparent, or was this purely William’s choice as he feels he’s too young? As with all Royal affairs, the truth will probably never be fully known, and it will be left to tabloid hacks to conjure up reasons why it may have happened.
Let me know what you think of the whole sorry saga.

I don’t care if you’re the King or my aunt, I think it’s silly when the family decides they can intervene. However, if the Queen really said that, maybe Willy boy was stringing the poor girl along. It’s hard to impossible to know when the media is involved so much.

That’s very true JM, although the royal family are like no other in Britain, a law unto themselves.
There’s even talk now that this is a ruse to get the media off the couples back, and give them time to prepare for an engagement!
