Playstation 3 Banned From British Prisons
We all know Sony have had problems with their launch of the Ps3, and now there’s the devastating news that prisoners will not be allowed to play the new console in British jails! I’m kidding of course, Sony probably see it as a good thing, it certainly won’t hurt their sales much as Britain’s prisons are so overcrowded it was going to be like…hmm one console for 5,000 prisoners or something stupid.
Home Secretary John Reid announced the ban amid fears that “the PlayStation 3 machine could be used to send and receive radio signals” in jails across the country. The Wi-Fi feature in every Ps3, as well as the ability to transfer information over to the Sony PSP was thought to be behind the scaremongering in the government.

According to ITV News, Mr Reid was replying in a written answer to shadow home secretary David Davis who asked what guidance the Home Office had issued concerning the use of Sony PlayStations.
Mr Reid said: “Advice was issued to all prisons in December 2005 that the Sony PlayStation 3 was barred from the prison estate because of the equipment’s ability to send and receive radio signals.”
This seems a bit on the loony side to me, but I suppose in these days of high-tech terrorism and religious bombing campaigns, it’s better to be on the safe side. Plus, If I’d have known there were lags doing time for serious crime and being rewarded by getting to play a £425 console which I can’t afford, then I’d be a bit sick!

I’ve got to say, I’m always surprised to find what is allowed in prison to begin with. I’m a free woman and don’t have a PS3 (although were gaming a priority, I’d probably figure something out).

You’re right Erin, I’d Loooove a Ps3, but have no chance of being able to afford one anythime this year at least.
Hang on, maybe I could steal one! Although if I got caught, I’d end up in prison and oh dear, they aren’t allowed them are they lol

I’m with Erin. It’s a wonder what is allowed in a…PRISON. Wow…even when I was grounded when I was younger I couldn’t use the phone…much less play games!
Best wishes!
Sincerely,
