New Freeview Channel To Launch In The UK Called ‘Dave’ | UKTV G2 Renamed For Younger Audience
Finally someone is realising how cool us Daves are, and we’re getting a television channel completely dedicated to us!
No, not really, unfortunately this new channel, while being named ‘Dave’ is purely a renaming and re branding for UKTV G2.
UKTV G2 will be relaunched next month as ‘Dave’ and will focus on a younger male audience than it does currently. The channel will be dedicated to comedy and entertainment programmes kind of in the mould of BBC3.
The big news though is that it will now be available on Freeview as well as Cable and Satellite. This means those poor saps like me who can’t afford a monthly subscription fee for hundreds of crap channels get another one to add to our roster.
So what’s the name all about? Well the idea is that “everyone knows a bloke called Dave“. This is true, and is actually quite an ingenious name to give a channel that you want everyone to know and tune in to.
Dave channel head Steven North said:
“With a schedule for which most broadcasters would give their eye teeth, UKTV G2 is an incredibly successful channel with 10 million viewers in pay homes each month, but with relatively low brand awareness. Changing the channel name to Dave enables us to create a strong and noisy personality for the channel that immediately aligns us with our core 16-34 male audience.”
The man talks sense, give him a peanut.
It’s funny but the fact that the channel is called Dave makes me want to tune in. I can imagine that’s true for all the other Daves out there in the UK, so the channel is guaranteed a good sized audience straight away.
Dave is the best name ever, we rule, so it’s about time we had a channel at least named after us. Daves are going to take over the World and this is the first step! Mwahaha.
Dave will air between 7am and 3am on Freeview channel 19, Sky channel 111 and Virgin TV channel 125.

That makes me think of the new stations here in the US who have given themselves names like Bob FM.

It also reminds me of Microsoft’s Bob.
