Michael Jackson Stage Comeback
As I speculated a couple of weeks ago on Pop Buzz UK, Michael Jackson made his first appearance in Britain for over 10 years last night at the World Music Awards. Not only did he pick up a diamond award, reserved for artists who have sold over 100 million records, he also performed to the expectant crowd. A crowd expecting MJ to perform Thriller, his best known and groundbreaking hit from 1983 after it was widely reported by the world’s media. In fact what they got, was Michael joining in with a group of children on a few lines of “We Are The World”. It seems he couldn’t even manage to sing through a whole song.
This was his first appearance on stage since he was cleared on child abuse charges and according to reports he had to be talked into going on stage by a fellow performer. Jackson devotees will surely be disappointed at this most recent bizarre behaviour of the man once dubbed “The King Of Pop”. After recent photos of him looking more like a woman, now it seems “The Queen Of Pap” seems more fitting.
The organisers of this year’s awards ceremony knew exactly what they were doing when they lined up the former star to collect an award and sing at their show. Despite the failure of Jacko to live up to the hype, it’s got the annual show featured heavily in all the British newspapers. The promise to perform Thriller was put down to a misunderstanding, which I’m sure it was, yes, I’m not at all suspicious of how that rumour came about. Chris Brown ended up performing the hit instead to a visibly disappointed crowd, many of whom were dedicated Jacko fans.
Accepting the award, Michael Jackson said “I dedicate this to the so many that have loved me and stayed by me throughout these years in the entertainment business.”
“While I cannot meet all of them, I would like to thank my wonderful children Paris, Prince and Blanket for their unconditional love and support, and my mother and my father, my brothers and sisters, my entire family for their love and support.”
“I thank you, I love you all, all the fans from the bottom of my heart.”

This wasn’t the glorious return to performing Michael Jackson would have wanted and personally I can’t ever see him reliving his glory days again. Even with a new album rumoured for the near future and a large, very loyal following, who almost worship him as a god, his days are surely numbered. Music has moved on, and I think it’s high time Jacko and his misguided fans did the same.

You are talking about his face now aren’t you neelima
Only joking, I do know what you mean, every man has his day and I admit Jackson was excellent when he was at the top of his game, no-one could match him. But now, it’s over, he can’t do it anymore, and he should admit that and get on with the rest of his life.

I’m not even a big MJ fan, but even I get annoyed at all the bashing this man gets.
Why?? Have we forgotten how much he’s contributed to the music industry?
Doesn’t he at least deserve some respect?
I don’t see what the fuss is all about regarding his WMA appearance.
He never said he was going to perform did he? It’s not his fault that fans spent so much money to see him. He was there to collect an award!
He should be admired for having the courage to show up in public after all the negative press he’s had.
Why do we say that his days are numbered anyway? He didn’t look too different when he made the Dangerous album….and that was a hit.
Why are people so quick to judge a person based on their looks?
Going by the barage the of remakes/remixes of old classics that we hear on the radio today, I would’ve expected people to be excited to see what MJ has to offer.

The man has talent. No surgeries or law suits can change that.

[…] Michael Jackson - Thriller Spoof Special March 30th, 2007 by DaveP There’s no rhyme nor reason for a Michael Jackson special at the moment, but you’re all getting one none the less. In fact I think the last time I heard sight or sound of him was at the World Music Awards last year, where he failed to sing spectacularly. Regardless, here are three of the best Jacko - Thriller spoofs/versions I’ve seen. Thanks to Lori at Trashy Celebs who sent me this wedding party video which then got me digging around! […]
