Michael Jackson awarded for being Michael Jackson

Michael Jackson, Oh he’s such a lovable type isn’t he, hanging children out of windows and whatever else he may or may not do. That’s why I’m so chuffed to hear he’s to receive an honour at the annual World Music Awards in two weeks time. So is it for best album, single, video? Don’t think so. Wasting all of his millions trying to prolong his youth in to his late 40s? Maybe. But I think, I think, it’s for being Michael Jackson. I can’t be sure but that’s about the only reason I can see for giving this guy (whose career is long behind him) an award.
Being the practical, hands on guy I am, I thought I’d better find out the truth…
Ohhhhhhhhhh, he’s getting the Diamond award, which is given to artists who sell more than 100 Million records during their career. That explains it then. I’m guessing that whatever the figure is at the moment, it won’t be getting too much higher from now on.
The execs at the WMAs must have been sat there a few months back thinking “So we’d better give him an award now and get it over with”. “Oh and also if Jacko turns up to collect, we’ll get loads of free publicity from news organisations and idiot bloggers who will try and make a witty, sarcastic post but instead just increase the interest in our ceremony”. Cue collective thumbs ups being displayed around the boardroom.
The 2006 World Music Awards will take place at Earls Court in London on November 15th and will be hosted by Lindsay Lohan. Michael will be making his first appearance in Britain for nine years, and will have just a short journey over from his residence in Ireland where he’s been living for the past few months.
Hang on, what have I just done?! Have I been taken in… again?

You should really stop judging people that you don’t know. How can you pass judgment as if you are God? Grow up.

I’m glad he’s recieving an award. He brings a certain excitement to an otherwise dull ceremony. I hope he really does release an album in 2007, we really need some origional talent on the music scene. Why not put a positive spin on things? It would be a lot more dignified than taking cheap shots.

Thanks to both for reading and commenting.
Saudia, I didn’t say anything about MJ that was made up, so I’m hardly judging. But I am allowed to express an opinion, thankfully.
Greg, You are also entitled to your opinion & I respect it. But I for one am sceptical as to why he’s receiving an award and the timing of it.
I could certainly have taken some cheap shots at Jacko but I don’t think I particularly have.

I think that the WMA’s are looking for a little PR and figured MJ would be a perfect choice. He has done nothing of note in the past 10-15 years, so this too me, is a fluff award.

Even if it were judging, MJ has obviously judged himself already. Anyone who changes his appearance so that the person he is today looks absolutely nothing like the person he was… He looks so artificial now, it’s scary. I literally had nightmares after reading a story about him before going to sleep one night. Now, I do not condone assessing a person’s worth based on looks (yet, he’s done this to himself);however, appearance is just the tip of the iceberg with him.

Shudder…
Once a long time ago he was really something. Now what is he? I’m not sure even he knows. But, he is getting the DIAMOND award, so he’s got that goinf for him.
Thanks for the heads up, Dave.

I don’t understand. Are you saying that he does not deserve the award? Is it a made up award just for him? If not why do you care about the timing. They should have given him this award long time ago its about time.

This article is so ridiculous. Dave, You sound so childish. You need to wake up and smell the coffee! All you think about is all the rumors about Michael. You don’t look at all the good things that Michael has done. You just want to make Michael look bad. You know what? There’s a million (maybe a billion) who loves Michael Jackson! And your only one person in a billion. You need to see whats in the inside of people other than the outside and the rumors. You need to shape up and shut up about all of this false stuff of yours. You seriously are not mature. You need to grow up, your giving children the right to say bad stuff. You are a bad influence. Michael Jackson is just the opposite of what you are. Michael Jackson has very good humanitarian. You sure don’t! So please just leave him alone. You don’t even know him. And I know that Michael is going to have the last laugh!!!

[…] Michael Jackson Stage Comeback November 16th, 2006 by DaveP As I speculated a couple of weeks ago on Pop Buzz UK, Michael Jackson made his first appearance in Britain for over 10 years last night at the World Music Awards. Not only did he pick up a diamond award, reserved for artists who have sold over 100 million records, he also performed to the expectant crowd. A crowd expecting MJ to perform Thriller, his best known and groundbreaking hit from 1983 after it was widely reported by the world’s media. In fact what they got, was Michael joining in with a group of children on a few lines of “We Are The World”. It seems he couldn’t even manage to sing through a whole song. […]

Wow i was absolutely amazed at the response of him being there. He can still make people scream their lungs out, just by saying a few words. Regardless of what he has done physically, and all the other rumors surrounding his personal life he is a legend, and a music icon.
