Lily Allen’s Brother Alfie To Star In Equus | Takes Over From Harry Potter Star Daniel Radcliffe
Lily Allen’s brother Alfie has been chosen as Daniel Radcliffe’s successor as the star of Equus.
The run at the West End which starred Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe ended after just 8 weeks due to poor reviews and ticket sales.
The production will now go out on a nationwide tour starting in Chichester on January 31st 2008 before a possible return to the West End.
The 21 year old Alfie Allen was most famous for the song called ‘Alfie’ by his sister Lily before his role in Atonement.
On the power of that performance, writer Peter Shaffer offered him the role afer a screen test.
Producer David Pugh told the Daily Mail:
“We arranged an 8am breakfast at the Wolseley restaurant with Peter Shaffer and Alfie to see if he was still a stay-in-bed-all-day kind of boy, but I think he was the first to arrive.”
That lazy bedroom dwelling reputation would stem from some of the lyrics which Lily used in the tribute to her brother, which included “My little brother’s in his bedroom smoking weed, I tell him he should get up ‘cos it’s nearly half past three.” Nice.
Let’s just hope he doesn’t disappoint in the play, as I guess Lily would be more than willing to write another song detailing his career successes and failures.
