Liam Gallagher Wanted To Be On ‘The X-Factor’
This evening sees the Semi-Final of ‘The X-Factor’ on ITV1 in the UK. Leona, Ray and Ben will be going head to head to try and secure the 2 places in next week’s final. But more interesting than that is the fact it seems Liam Gallagher from Oasis wanted to be a celebrity mentor on the show.
Digital Spy writes, Liam Gallagher has revealed he wanted to be a celebrity mentor on X Factor - but was vetoed by brother Noel.
The Oasis singer has told of his admiration of the show in the past and has now recalled how close he came to making an appearance.
He said the band was asked if they were interested and pointed out how an appearance would also have helped with album sales.
The Gallaghers would have joined a list of mentors including Rod Stewart, Lionel Ritchie and Tony Bennett if Noel had not decided otherwise.
“We should have done it,” commented Liam. “The contestants would have been singing Oasis songs. I would have loved that. If Tony Bennett can go on, why can’t we?
“We’d have made it to number one in the album charts without a doubt, but our kid said no and that was that.”
So it seems Noel still rules the Oasis roost and can make decisions over the band’s appearance or not on the UK’s biggest reality TV show at the moment. As much as I like The X-Factor, I don’t really think Oasis should be involved in what is essentially a search for manufactured pop. They have always struck me as a band out on their own and upholding talent above marketing.
The current betting has Ray as fairly odds on to be voted off today, leaving the soulful and attractive Leona going against rocker Ben to be this year’s winner. My money is on Leona, she has universal appeal and has yet to put in a bad performance.

I’d like to see him be a contestant, I reckon he’d get booted out right away. I don’t even like the guy, he’s a obnoxious prat. The only mentoring he could do is for the Manchester scallys, teaching them how to be an idiot just like him… in my opinion, of course
