Leon Jackson Beats Rhydian Roberts In The X-Factor 2007 Final… It Was Kylie Minogue’s Fault!

I’ve been following The X-Factor all series, right from the early auditions where we get to see the morons who think they can sing, but can’t even hit a note, get the chance to humiliate themselves on national television. Tonight was finally final time, and we were down to just three acts: Leon Jackson, Rhydian Roberts, and Same Difference.
They all performed three times, singing their favourite songs from the whole series, and they all gave good accounts of themselves, with hardly a bum note audible during the whole 2 hour show.
Rhydian had been the favourite, with the judges, fans, and even the bookies, since the live shows started and his exhibitionist style shone through, and raised him over the rest of the pack. But tonight just wasn’t his night and he lost out to Leon Jackson.
First out were Same Difference, which was the right result, because as good as they are, their fan base must have an average age of about 10, and have a limited musical knowledge which begins and ends with the hits from High School Musical.
So it came down to a straight (although I have my doubts about Rhydian) fight between Danni Minogue’s two acts. I’ve actually been a bit scathing of Dannii in the past, and even though her acts ended up finishing 1st and 2nd, I stand by my thoughts that she is an untalented lump of lard who lives in her sister’s shadow.
Speaking of which, Kylie turned up tonight and duetted with Leon, which quite frankly could have won him the show on its own. She was definitely the star turn, and the fact it was Leon who got to sing with her, won’t have harmed his cause one bit. BLAME KYLIE!
Leon was announced as the winner after the preposterously long pause which we always get in reality show finals such as this. Leon was shocked, and so was I because quite frankly, I think he sucked.
He had definitely improved as the show went on, but he still hadn’t reached Rhydian’s awesome level of talent by the time this final rolled around, so why did he win?
I can only think that it is either because Leon is a good looking guy, and appealed to all of those 14 year old girls who have just started to experience some strange sensations in the pit of their stomach for members of the opposite sex. Couple that with the fact that Rhydian was a bit of a weirdo, and we have a winning combination.
Or it could just be that after Paul Potts won Britain’s Got Talent, with his brilliant operatic voice, there just wasn’t room for Rhydian in Simon Cowell’s ever growing arsenal of talented wannabes.
The show will be back next year, and we’ll have to watch another round of failures, successes, and sob stories. My only hope is they put more attention on the contestants next year than the judges.
