Heroes Coming To The UK!

The news I’ve been waiting for has finally been confirmed, Heroes is coming to terrestrial British Television. I’ve been hearing about, reading about, finding tidbits about and looking forward to seeing Heroes since it debuted on NBC in September in the States to critical acclaim. The (NBC owned) UK Sci-Fi channel has the Pay TV rights to air the show and will be doing so from January 2007. And now the BBC have come in and bought the rights to show the first series on BBC2 straight after it has finished airing on Sci-Fi.
The drama series tells the story of a group of individuals who think they are normal, just like everybody else, until one day they wake up with extraordinary powers, such as flight, time travel or telepathy. They then come together over time and realise they have a power and responsibility to help mankind. Filmed in arcs, with short, multi episode stories building into much longer and larger ranging storylines, the characters will also reportedly learn their origins over time. The cast includes Final Destination’s Ali Larter and the gorgeous Hayden Panettiere (Pictured below).

According to show creator Tim Kring, Heroes is mapped out for at least 5 seasons, so with NBC confirming it’s been picked up for at least 1 whole season, the show looks as though it could run for a few years. The series is filmed in Los Angeles and California and has so far generated very good ratings. The pilot attracted over 14 million viewers, the highest for an NBC drama in 5 years, a fact that was clearly realised by BBC2 bosses. Channel controller Roly Keating said “We’re really looking forward to bringing this innovative and compelling fantasy drama to a terrestrial television audience later next year.”
I’ll certainly be tuning in, and the way in which British viewers have lapped up Lost, The X-Files and British Fantasy such as Dr Who in recent years, I expect it to be a big hit on this side of the pond. Do you think it’ll translate well to Britain? Do you think UK viewers will connect with the characters the same way as US watchers have? Feel free to let me know what you think.

[...] Hayden’s album will feature the song, “Your New Girlfriend,” a sure-fire anthem for all the ladies who’ve lost their man to another woman. I bet she was making this same exact face when writing the lyrics to that little ditty! [...]

[...] The show is about a group of ordinary people who discover they have some extraordinary abilities, and shows them learning how to deal with them. But it’s much more than that, with connections between the characters, and sub plots and surprises around every corner. You can read my full preview of the show here. [...]
