Giant Homer Simpson Cartoon | Promotion For Simpsons Movie
The Simpsons movie is due out on July 26th, and the promotion for the movie has gone in to overdrive mode. One of the most spectacular and downright cheeky ways the makers have tried to draw attention to the forthcoming film is by drawing a giant Homer Simpson on a hillside in England.

The chalk sculpture of Homer has been drawn next to the famous Cerne Abbas Giant, a pagan drawing of an aroused, club-wielding man dating to at least the 17th century in Dorset. It’s a revered pagan symbol of fertility, and is Britain’s largest chalk drawing, carved into the natural chalk rock beneath the grass.
And now, standing proudly alongside him is homer Simpson, dressed in underpants and wielding a huge doughnut. I think this is a great addition to the countryside, and a huge publicity coup on the part of The Simpsons movie makers.
The artist who was commissioned to paint the piece is Peter Stuart, and it’s been done entirely in biodegradeable paint, meaning it’ll naturally wash off when it rains. In England that’s almost every day, so I suspect it’ll be gone by the time the movie actually opens next week.
Apparently there have been a lot of complaints about it, but come on people, lighten up, it’s only a bit of fun. It’s not like it’s going to be there for 300 years like the original, and anyone wishing to view the Giant can still look at it all they want… just try and avoid the giant Homer lurking to his right!

It was some pagan society that complained.
I think they were threatening to do a rain dance or something.

The complaints baffle me.
How is Homer any more offensive than a chalk man with a club and a giant erection? Surely this is only promoting domestic violence.
I think I might complain to the Pagan Society about that one…
