Film Preview: 28 Weeks Later

by

The follow up to British classic ‘28 Days Later‘ came out last Friday 11th May, and is already biting Spider-man 3 on the ass at number 2 in the charts.

The 2002 film was directed by Danny Boyle, wheras this one named quite obviously ‘28 Weeks Later‘ is directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, and even more obviously is set 28 weeks after the initial virus outbreak from the first film.

Set largely in London, and more specifically canary Wharf, this film stars a whole new cast, lead ably by the always brilliant Robert Carlyle. The film is very similar in style and feel to the original, with there being an almost blueprint feel to it. As well as making the audience, and fans feel right at home, it’s also the main problem of the film, as it doesn’t do anything new, original, or better than the first film.

The zombie gorefest will continue, with there recently being a third film announced, to complete the trilogy. In a fit of brilliance and originality, it’s to be called ‘28 Months Later‘… uh huh, I bet you didn’t see that coming.
