Doctor Who News Round Up | Russell T Davies Claim | Ben Kingsley As Davros | Peter Davison Returns
Wow, you don’t hear anything about Doctor Who for weeks, and then all of a sudden there’s an influx of stories on the cult British Sci-fi show.
So here is a round up of all the latest news and gossip from the world of Who.
Doctor Who chief writer and series reviver Russell T Davies has claimed that the show is set up so it can be around for 20-30 years.
He explained:
“I don’t have any big ambitions except to carry on writing stories for telly. We’ve set [Doctor Who] up in such a way that it should be around for 20-30 years yet.”
“Within that time frame there will be year-long hiatuses to give it a chance to get its momentum back.”
This is such brilliant news, especially coming from the head honcho. There have been constant rumours either of the show ending after one more series, or Davies and his team leaving the show.
These now look to have been shown to be completely erroneous, and it should please Who fans to know their favourite show has a good future, so long as the BBC don’t decide to can it of course.
Sir Ben Kingsley As Davros?
Meanwhile, Sir Ben Kingsley has been denying claims by some tabloid newspapers that he is due to play uber villain Davros in the next series.
The British actor, best known for his role in Gandhi, told the Guardian newspaper that he had never even heard about the claims. This seems to have rubbished earlier claims in The Sun which had quoted an insider on the show as saying:
“Ben’s agent has been in talks for a while now and he’s very keen to play the part of Davros. A deal will be signed any day now.”
I suspect this is more just a case of having a character needing a big actor, and plucking a name out of a hat. I really can’t see Kingsley as the creator of the daleks.
Peter Davison On Children In Need
One actor who will be appearing in an upcoming episode of the show is Peter Davison.
The Fifth Doctor will reprise his role in a special Children In Need charity episode in which he will star alongside current Doctor David Tennant.
The short episode will be entitled ‘Time Crash’, has been written by Steven Moffat, and will appear on BBC One on November 16th.
Davison told the Beeb:
“It is an honour for me to be able to make the connection between the fifth Doctor and the tenth Doctor.”
“However, now is not the time for sound-bites. I can feel the hand of history on my shoulder, even if I can’t do the buttons up!”

I have wondered if the surplus Dr.Who news was just something I was finally noticing b/c I just started watching Torchwood (never started Dr. Who) so now that type of headline is on my radar. But I guess it’s just been heavy! I’m thinking I may need to purchase those seasons to get me through the Holiday slump on TV.
