David Beckham To Be Knighted?

Yes I know, it’s another Beckham story, just two posts after my last one but it’s what’s happening right now, I can’t help that can I?
David Beckham, Becks to his friends, and us the great British unwashed, is allegedly to receive a knighthood from the Queen in the New Years honours… Yes, Mr Posh Spice, already an O.B.E. (Order of the British Empire) is set to become a Sir at the ripe old age of 31. He’s receiving the prestigious honour for his services to soccer (kicking a ball into a net) and his community work (giving some of his many millions earned each year to charity). Worthy.
Not only will we have to call him Sir David Beckham but also Posh will unwittingly become Lady Victoria Beckham. British Prime Minister Tony Blair apparently nominated the Real Madrid footballer himself, so it’s just another mistake he’s made to add to the growing list.
I suppose it’s fitting for a couple who were married while sat on thrones, live in a palatial Spanish palace and annually earn a king’s ransom but still, I can’t really see the logic. I can only imagine Becks’ services to fancy haircuts and the grooming industry also played a part in this strange decision.

Beckham, the former Manchester United golden boy and England soccer captain would be in esteemed company, with 1966 world cup winners and legends Sir Geoff Hurst and Sir Bobby Charlton. Hurst though, scored a hat trick in England’s only world cup winning final and had to wait a full 30 years until 1998 to receive his honour from the Queen.
At the moment, these are still rumours and speculation, but it’s raging like wildfire on the Internet and in all the British newspapers so I can’t see it proving untrue. What do you think, not only to one so young, but a soccer star who has had varied success in his career, being awarded the top honour? Let me know…
