Coleen McLoughlin Claims To Be A Journalist - Wayne Rooney’s Fiancée Ups Her Title From WAG
I’ll tell you right here and now that I am not a journalist. I am a freelance writer, and a professional blogger, and some of my work comes close to be what you’d describe as journalism, but still I would never assume to call myself a journalist. I don’t earn enough from what I do for starters.
However, I am more of a journalist than Coleen McLoughlin ever will be, which makes it slightly absurd to learn that is what she has entered as her occupation on the wedding banns for her forthcoming marriage to England footballer Wayne Rooney.
This is a joke right? Coleen McLoughlin is a WAG, nothing more, nothing less. Good on her for bagging a young footballer who went on to become a great player for Manchester United and England, but I think its time for a reality check.
McLoughlin has done a few things since becoming famous for her boyfriend, including advertising campaigns for Asda and LG, a spot of TV presenting, and a fitness workout DVD. All of which she was paid a fortune to do, despite not having any talent beyond being famous.
The only thing remotely journalistic in her “career” has been a column in a celebrity magazine called Closer, which has been described as “vapid” and “like listening to the ravings of an amoeba with too much money”. Roy Greenslade, a proper journo writing for the Guardian newspaper said the column was just “variations on the theme of look-what-I-wore-to-see-Wayne-play-football.”
I don’t begrudge McLoughlin the fame, despite it not being deserved, or the wealth, estimated to be about £8 million, but I do take offence when she describes herself as a journalist, when she is anything but.
Have your wedding, sell your pictures for a few million pounds, and then admit what you really are - an ordinary looking girl from Liverpool who struck lucky when Rooney met and fell in love with you. That’s it, end of story.
