Celebrity Profile: Shilpa Shetty

I remember seeing Shilpa Shetty in a film titled Baazigar. She was never a favorite but there was something about her startling figure and sleek dancing moves that has made her a fixture in Bollywood for nearly two decades now.

After her presence in the Celebrity Big brother Show in the U.K sparked off a racism debate and she ended up winning the Big Brother Prize, Shilpa Shetty has been having it good. For one thing controversies are stalking her. Take the Richard Gere kiss. As Shilpa is an ambassador of good causes, she and Richard Gere decided to entertain the public a little to help the AIDS cause.

The result was a couple of lawsuits being filed against Shetty and Gere. Gere’s long lingering kisses stayed in the public memory and another debate is making the rounds about the morality police in the sub continent. Looks like Shilpa Shetty is the true woman of substance after all- she is making the whole world think and she’s drawing a lot of mileage out of it.

Comment by DaveP: Before Celebrity Big Brother, I had never heard of Shilpa Shetty, now I adore the woman. Not only is she beautiful and talented, but she displayed such grace and composure in the face of the racism she encountered in the house. The new series of Big Brother starts on May 30th on Channel 4, and E4, and I’ll watch as I always do, but will pray that there’s no conflict this time.
