Celebrity Big Brother Is Back!.. Sort Of | Celebrity Hijack Debuts On E4 In January 2008 Instead
‘Celebrity Big Brother’ has been saved from the axe, kinda. It’s been repackaged and will be back on our screen in 2008, probably in its originally scheduled January timeslot.
The show was axed in August after last year’s race row between Shilpa Shetty and Jade Goody was deemed too controversial and Channel 4 didn’t want to risk a repeat performance.

Now it has been announced that a direct replacement called ‘Celebrity Hijack’ will replace the show in the TV listings, although it’ll only be shown on E4, rather than the terrestrial Channel 4.
The idea of ‘Celebrity Hijack’ is to have normal members of the public housemates, although it seems Big Brother bosses are looking purely for people in the 18-21 age range, and only people who they describe as “extremely talented”.
These contestants will live in the house as in a normal series of Big Brother, with the one big difference being the fact that Big Brother will be played by various different celebrities, usually on a day to day basis.
These guest star big brothers will be able to communicate with the housemates, set them tasks and generally have control of the show how they see fit.
While it’s a shame that the original concept for Celebrity Big Brother has been dropped, this does sound like an intriguing idea for a show. I can just imagine how a squeaky clean celebrity could completely ruin their reputation by spending one day humiliating and being very cruel to the young housemates. It may also give the opportunity to celebrities we love to hate to go some way to changing our opinions of them by being all sweetness and light.
It’ll be interesting to say the least, and at least it means Big Brother won’t be off our television screens for 8 months in a row. After Brian Belo won Big Brother 8, I had withdrawal symptoms! Yes, I am that sad.
