Celebrity Big Brother Axed In The UK? | Reality TV Show Back In 2009?
Just a day after I posted an article about speculation that Paris Hilton will be a house mate in Celebrity Big Brother 2008, comes the sensational news that the show has been axed!
Channel 4 have apparently suspended the shows next series for a year, with it possibly making a return in 2009. The reasons for the axing are unclear although Channel 4 are claiming it’s part of a “creative renewal” scheme.
According to The Sun:-
The broadcaster claimed the move is part of a policy to clear almost all returning series from the heart of its peak time schedule in the first half of 2008 as it strives for new and adventurous programming.
I’d actually speculate that the reasons are more to do with a combination of the controversy surrounding last year’s show, and the lack of success of this years non-celebrity version Big Brother 8.
Last year’s Celebrity Big Brother is best remembered for the massive race and bullying row involving Shilpa Shetty and Jade Goody.
This year’s Big Brother 8 meanwhile has been getting good ratings from the usual fans but has failed to pull in the occasional viewers who start watching if a big headline story emerges from the house.
Celebrity Big Brother is one of my favourite shows of the year on British television so let’s just hope Channel 4 either reverses its decision, or at least ensures its return in 2009.
