Soccer AM - Pearl Diving

Wednesday, April 11th, 2007

This isn’t brand new but it’s so good, and I’ve only just found it on YouTube so thought I’d post. The clip shows Pearl Heanen, an old lady from Australia who started diving once she hit OAP status and does it in a really funny way.

Lewis Hamilton Thrills in Grand Prix Debut

Tuesday, March 20th, 2007

The Formula 1 season started on Sunday in Australia and despite not winning, Lewis Hamilton was the man making all the headlines in yesterday’s newspapers. The season kicked off with a traditional and dominating win for the Ferrari team, just with different personnel in the driving seat than the last few years. With Michael Schumacher’s retirement, it was left to his replacement Kimi Raikonnen to lead the Italian giants to victory. But the Finn’s drive was overshadowed by Lewis Hamilton, who made one of the most impressive Formula One debuts for years as he took third place. (more…)

New Wembley Stadium Finished And Sold Out

Wednesday, March 14th, 2007

Last week, the new national stadium in Wembley, North London was finally handed over to the English F.A. after months of severe delays. So when tickets for the first game at the new ground went on sale, the whole allocation sold out within six hours, despite it only being an England Under-21 game.

Wembley Stadium

On March 24th, England’s young soccer team will play against Italy and all 60,000 of the £10 tickets were snapped up as soon as they went on sale. The rush for tickets sent booking lines into meltdown. Online sites and telephone order lines crashed under the sheer volume of applications. When lines opened at 3pm there were 6,000 people in the queue. (more…)

Chelsea Vs Arsenal - 2007 Carling Cup Final Report

Tuesday, February 27th, 2007

Chelsea Win

On Sunday, the Carling cup final was played at Cardiff’s Millenium stadium. Contested between Arsenal and Chelsea, to say it was a hard fought and exciting match is somewhat of an understatement.

The game started genially enough with both sides playing their normal attractive football. In the 16th minute, 17 year old Theo Walcott gave Arsenal the lead by ghosting around Ricardo Carvalho and deftly slotting the ball home. Arsenal’s advantage only lasted 6 minutes though before Chelsea’s on form Didier Drogba snatched a goal after being given the benefit of the doubt and judged onside. To me it did look like offside, with only a defender Manuel Almunia’s leg possibly saving the goal from being disallowed. Until half time, Arsenal looked the better side, with their inexperienced young team asking questions of Chelsea’s expensive all star cast. (more…)

Richard Hammond Crash Video

Friday, February 2nd, 2007

The high speed crash which nearly killed ‘The Hamster’ Richard Hammond was shown on Top Gear this week and this is the edited footage of that horrific crash. There’s no blood or gore but it’s quite disconcerting to watch so be warned…

Association Football - A Guide

Thursday, January 18th, 2007

A guide to football, or soccer, at least according to Harry Enfield And Chums. I thought this might prove useful to anyone, particularly Americans who are just now getting into the sport that is soccer, maybe because of David Beckham’s recent mega money move to L.A. Galaxy, maybe for some more convoluted reason. So sit back and enjoy a quick 3 minute guide to Association football… (more…)

Beckham Signs For L.A. Galaxy!

Friday, January 12th, 2007

The back pages moved to the front pages of the tabloids yesterday and today as speculation and finally confirmation of footballer David Beckham’s move to a new club. Currently the superstar and former England captain plys his very lucrative career for Real Madrid in Spain but with his £120,000 a week contract coming to an end, both the club and player decided the time was ripe to move on.. Shane Warne Quits Test Cricket…Hoorah!

Friday, December 22nd, 2006

Shane Warne, the scourge of the England Cricket team for 15 years now has announced his retirement from Test Cricket. And as soon as it was made public, the whole of the barmy army and every casual fan put their hands up in the air and cheered! There’s no doubting he’s a great cricketer but that’s the problem, he’s done so much damage to the English batting order over the years that his retirement can only mean the chances of an England win over Australia increasing exponentially. David Beckham To Be Knighted?

Tuesday, November 7th, 2006

Posh And Becks

Yes I know, it’s another Beckham story, just two posts after my last one but it’s what’s happening right now, I can’t help that can I? ;)

David Beckham, Becks to his friends, and us the great British unwashed, is allegedly to receive a knighthood from the Queen in the New Years honours… Yes, Mr Posh Spice, already an O.B.E. (Order of the British Empire) is set to become a Sir at the ripe old age of 31. He’s receiving the prestigious honour for his services to soccer (kicking a ball into a net) and his community work (giving some of his many millions earned each year to charity). Worthy. (more…)
