Hot Fuzz Film Preview

Wednesday, February 21st, 2007

This is the new film by Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright, best known for the excellent ‘Shaun Of The Dead’. Coming out last Wednesday (Valentines Day) in the UK, March 15th in Australia and April 20th in America, it’s another comedy very much in the same mould as SOTD. The pairing of Simon Pegg and Nick Frost again get together as a brilliant double act, playing off each other and delivering some classic lines. The cast also includes former Bond Timothy Dalton, the brilliant Jim Broadbent and Billy Whitelaw. (more…)

Music And Lyrics Preview

Thursday, February 15th, 2007

This is the new film starring Hugh Grant and Drew Barrymore. Music And Lyrics is the story of Alex Fletcher (Grant), one time big popstar who gets signed up for a show called ‘Battle of the 80s Has-Beens’. With less than a week to come up with a hit song, he enlists his cleaner Sophie (Barrymore) to help him after she exhibits some lyrical skills. Obviously, no Hugh Grant film is complete without a romance, and these two get it on and end up having a working/fun relationship. (more…)

Notes On A Scandal - Film Trailer

Tuesday, February 6th, 2007

This new film, starring Dame Judi Dench and Cate Blachett looks like an incredibly well acted drama. Adapted from Zoe Heller’s Man Booker Prize nominated 2003 novel of the same name, it’s a mean psychological thriller concerning deceit and betrayal. Judi stars as the machiavellian school teacher Barbara Covett, while Cate is a quiet family woman, whose life is changed when she starts an ill-conceived affair with a 15 year old pupil. Judi’s character uses the knowledge of this affair to further her relationship with Cate, in ominous and nasty ways.

With two of the best female British actors ever and a stellar suporting cast including Bill Nighy and Emma Kennedy, this looks like a must see for fans of the genre. It was available at limited cinemas around Christmas and is now on at cinemas nationwide.

The View - Same Jeans

Tuesday, January 9th, 2007

This is my song of the week, well I’m a week early as it’s not out until next Monday the 15th January. It’s a great single by Scottish band The View, hailing from just outside Dundee. They’ve been around for nigh on 2 years now but haven’t really had much coverage or success until they may do with this potential chart topper. Take a look at the video and let me know what you think. Personally, I find it an instantly appealing slice of indie goodness, which is ultra catchy… (more…)

New Year, New Pop Buzz

Monday, January 1st, 2007

Well folks, all you lads and lasses who venture to read my blog from time to time, it’s that day that they call January 1st! As if you didn’t already know. I hope you’ve all recovered from the drink fuelled/drug ingesting/sinful times you may or may not have had last night in the run up to midnight. I. of course was sat at home, reading War And Peace with a cup of cocoa… uh huh. (more…)

Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix

Friday, December 8th, 2006

For all you Happy Potter fans, and I know there are tons of you out there, here is a video compilation of clips and previews from the upcoming film ‘Order Of the Phoenix’. Due for release on July 13th, this film of the fifth book out of the 7 part series already has fans excited, and I’m one of them.

‘The Order Of The Phoenix’ is one of my favourite of the HP books, second only to ‘Goblet Of Fire’ which I think they did a brilliant job of last year, so I can’t wait to go to the cinema to see this. The cast looks amazing again, with all the regulars such as Daniel Radcliffe and Alan Rickman joined by Imelda Staunton and the gorgeous Helena Bonham Carter amongst others. (more…)

‘London To Brighton’ Film Preview

Wednesday, December 6th, 2006

A new British film opened in the UK last Friday December 1st. ‘London To Brighton’ is an urban thriller from acclaimed new British writer & director Paul Andrew Williams. Set in the twin towns of London and Brighton (a modern seaside resort an hour away from the capital), it’s the story of a young prostitute and an underage girl she’s trying to protect. Chased by her pimp, the film follows 24 hours in their lives while they try to get away from a premature death. Watch the trailer below… (more…)

‘The Holiday’ Film Trailer

Wednesday, November 29th, 2006

This is the new film from Writer, Producer and Director Nancy Meyers of ‘What Women Want’ and ‘Something’s Gotta Give’ fame. The cast of ‘The Holiday’ is pretty amazing with starring roles for British actors Kate Winslet and Jude Law. Jack Black and Cameron Diaz round out the main roles as the American contingent. I like all of these actors in their own right so putting them together seems to me to be a masterstroke. Enjoy… (more…)

A “Big Nothing” Preview With Something In

Thursday, November 23rd, 2006

This is the new film “Big Nothingâ€?, released in the UK on the 1st December. The instant attraction for me is two of my favourite comedy actors Simon Pegg and David Schwimmer being the main protagonists of the movie. Okay, David hasn’t had the most glittering career since his glory days of Friends but those memories are enough for me to want to see him in stuff. Simon Pegg is a genius of comedic proportions if you can have such a thing. He wrote and starred in Shaun Of The Dead, one of my favourite films of recent years. He also wrote cult sitcom Spaced and contributed to some of the best British comedies including Brass Eye, Black Books, and the League Of Gentlemen. His move into more mainstream cinema and TV has seen him in Dr Who and Mission Impossible 3, amongst others. Just looking at his Imdb page, I see he has already recorded 4 more films so expect to see a lot of him over the next 2 years. (more…)

Ps3 Release Update and News

Tuesday, November 30th, 1999

The release date gets closer every day, now being less than 2 months away but that doesn’t stop Sony seeming to want to put even more people off buying their latest console. The Playstation 3 has now got a confirmed and concrete release date of March 23rd, and pre-orders are being accepted all across the board, from main game shops, media outlets and web based comanies such as Amazon.

Unfortunately Sony have put a major foot in it over the last few days by announcing/admitting that the Ps3 that us Europeans get foisted upon us will NOT have full backwards compatability with all Ps2 or Ps1 games. They won’t reveal which games will work or what proportion we should be expecting but that the hardware released in Europe will be different than that in Japan and America. In those territories 98% of all older games work on the new format, but that is guaranteed to be less here. Once again Europe is being short changed by Sony, a real kick in the teeth seeing as we already pay more money than the rest of the world. (more…)
