Harry Potter & The Order Of The Phoenix Film Review

Tuesday, July 17th, 2007

I went to see Harry Potter & The Order Of The Phoenix at the cinema on Sunday, and while I was impressed with the film as a whole, my girlfriend was very disappointed with how the film rewrote and bastardised the book. So I asked her to write a post detailing what was missing and modified for the film.

Order Of the Phoenix Poster 2

Order Of The Phoenix Review by Cloudy

Overall the film was a decent effort at retelling the epic story told by J.K. Rowling but I thought the acting in the early stages of the film was a bit wooden. Harry, Ron and Hermione didn’t seem to have their usual rapport going on until part way into the story. I did, however, like the portrayal of Dudley Dursley to be a moronic scally buffoon, it fitted in very well with my idea of an adolescent Dudley and gang.

I was severely distressed by the amount of scenes that had gone missing as Order of the Phoenix under went it’s transformation from book to film. In some cases extra scenes had been added to cover up the missing parts, but why bother doing that when the original scene would have worked just as well, if not better.

They’re All Dead Dave by JM

I was standing in the lounge and frowning at the television when I asked my husband if he remembered that show. That British one… No, not Little Britain… The one with… What for? I’m doing a guest post on Dave’s blog.

That’s when my husband looked at me strangely and asked me why didn’t I do a post about Red Dwarf? Pure genius and so utterly obvious I had to smack my forehead.

Why was it genius and utterly obvious?

Because I hear Red Dwarf.

Red Dwarf is one piece of British genius that makes my heart beat a little faster. (Actually, that would be the dreadlocked Dave Lister, but we won’t tell my husband that.)

British Cop Shows by Gillian

Australia isn’t quite as addicted to British cop shows as Britain is to Aussie soapies. Not quite. It comes close when I visit my family in Melbourne, though. It doesn’t matter that I’ve traveled hundreds of miles to visit, if Inspector Lynley is on, I have to sit quietly and wait it out.

Not that my family likes Inspector Lynley. “He’s too perfect,” my mother says, once a week. She prefers her cops to be more… interesting. Like John Thaw.

Shetty Rules by Neel

www.healthybpm.com

I remember seeing Shilpa Shetty in a film titled Baazigar. She was never a favorite but there was something about her startling figure and sleek dancing moves that has made her a fixture in Bollywood for nearly two decades now.

After her presence in the Celebrity Big brother Show in the U.K sparked off a racism debate and she ended up winning the Big Brother Prize, Shilpa Shetty has been having it good. For one thing controversies are stalking her. Take the Richard Gere kiss. As Shilpa is an ambassador of good causes, she and Richard Gere decided to entertain the public a little to help the AIDS cause.

Missing The Ninth Doctor by Elisa

The other evening, I had a friend over who had yet to see any of the new Doctor Who. As you may imagine, I was more than willing to get her started at the beginning with the Ninth Doctor as played by Christopher Eccleston. We managed to fit the first six episodes into the evening, in between breaks for tea and sustenance. My friend had such a good time she wants to come back soon to watch the rest of the first series. For my part, I remembered all over again why it was that I miss the Ninth Doctor.

Hot Fuzz Review by Winnie McCarthy

www.watchingtheview.com/
www.about-chicagoil.com/

Plot Summary

Hot Fuzz stars Simon Pegg as Nicholas Angel, a highly effective police officer in London who is sent away to the small rural village of Sandford because his excellent arrest rate is making the rest of the police officers look bad. Angel is partnered with PC Danny Butterman, played by Nick Frost, the son of the village Inspector. Obsessed with American police movies, like Bad Boys 2, PC Butterman is excited to work with Angel who has been involved in exciting police work.

After being sent on a series of silly assignments, like the one shown in this YouTube video clip below, things start to get exciting in the village. What appears to be an angelic village without any major crime turns out to be something more sinister as a series of deaths appear to be more than just accidents.

Not Bad For A McJob by Cloudy

Coined in the 80s but made popular in the 90s by Coupland’s Generation X, the word “McJob” is ruffling a few feathers with the employees at McDonalds and other service sector employers. The term “McJob“, which has imposed itself upon todays popular culture and is offically defined in The Oxford English Dictionary as “an unstimulating, low-paid job with few prospects, especially one created by the expansion of the service sector” had been the focus of the past few years of McDonalds staff recruitment drives. After the addition of McJob to the dictionary, McDonalds hit back with the advertising campaign slogan “Not bad for a McJob“, which was shown on posters depicting highly flexible working hours, competitive pay, share options, health plans and promotion opportunities.
