Manchester Wins Race For First Super Casino

Thursday, February 1st, 2007

Manchester has beaten tough competition and the bookies odds to become the first city in Britain to be granted a ’super casino’ license. Seaside Resort Blackpool and London’s Millenium Dome were the front runners and favourites for the honour of a regional Las Vegas style casino resort but lost out to the North West city.

Up until now only small casinos have been allowed to exist in Britain, for fear of the effect that open gambling would have on society, especially youngsters who may be drawn in. Until a couple of years ago, bookmakers even had to have blacked out or covered windows so the activities could not be seen from outside. Now that has been lifted and the government has given the go ahead for 17 officially licensed casinos around the UK. (more…)

London’s New Year’s Eve Party Spectacular

Tuesday, January 2nd, 2007

Before reviewing any “stuff” such as music, films and TV from the last year, I was so blown away by the show London staged to bring 2007 in, I had to share it with anyone unfortunate enough not to have seen it. Ok, from what I saw, Tokyo, Sydney and New York all did great jobs, but London kicked butt yet again with an awesome light and fireworks show. I chose to highlight someone’s personal video rather than footage taken straight from the telly as it gives the whole thing a “I was there” feeling. So for your pleasure, here is the full (and surely very expensive) show, in three parts. Enjoy… (more…)
