Monty Python & The Holy Grail Lego Version

Wednesday, July 25th, 2007

I love everything about Monty Python, from the TV series, to the films, and even beyond that with Terry Gilliam’s films, Michael Palin’s travel programmes and everything else they’ve done since. So when I find some new bit of comedy gold related to the Python empire, I like to share it with my readers on Pop Buzz UK.

This version of Monty Python’s ‘The Holy Grail’ is scarily well done, with the added animation on the Lego mouths very well done. Obviously it’s not as good as the original, but seeing it done in Lego adds a whole new level of fun to the whole scene.

Ever since the Lego Star Wars games came along, there seems to be a craze for turning everything in to a Lego version, and I for one, think they work extremely well, being both funny and clever at the same time. I’ll try and dig out some more classic British pop culture moments recreated in Lego, and post them up for you all.

Harry Potter Is Just Star Wars In Disguise!

Friday, July 20th, 2007

Continuing the countdown to the release of the seventh and final Harry Potter book The Deathly Hallows, and tonight is the night. From Midnight you will be able to obtain your copies of the last book in the series, although I suspect like me, most of you will be more likely to be getting your copy in the morning. A lot of stores are opening tonight, or early tomorrow morning especially for the launch, but I’ll be waiting for my postman to deliver my Amazon pre-ordered copy to my door. I’ll be going to bed early tonight so I can get up early and start reading asap. Sad yes, but there’ll be millions of people like me so don’t judge!

Anyway, on to the point of this post, the fact that Harry Potter is in essence just a copy of Star Wars, at least in plot, if not character and setting. Don’t believe me? Then take a look at this…

Harry Potter Picture Special | Harry & Hermione Get Close

Thursday, July 19th, 2007

As so many millions of us are eagerly awaiting the release of the seventh and final book in the Harry Potter series The Deathly Hallows this Saturday, I thought I’d revisit some photos and little tidbits about the whole saga.

This first one is a classic case of Photoshop goodness, with a perfectly innocent shot of a young Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Grainger turned in to a sleazy gropefest, but it made me laugh so that’s alright then.

Harry Potter Grope

I didn’t say it was clever did I, but funny yes. I actually can’t believe how young the trio of actors look as they sit feeling each other up.

Fish And Rice Cakes Boy Video on YouTube

Friday, July 13th, 2007

It’s fish and rice cakes boy! Prepare yourself to laugh like a drain, cos I assure you, you will. This is one of the most bizarre but funny clips I’ve seen on YouTube in a long time. It shows a clip from a British documentary about a guy in training for a body building contest. I have to give credit to the always excellent Iain Lee on LBC for playing this out and making me search the internet high and low for it.

YouTube: Jeremy Kyle by Jon Culshaw

Wednesday, June 27th, 2007

Jeremy Kyle is Britain’s equivalent of Jerry Springer… just without the transsexuals and hookers. Instead he sticks to parading the chavs and scum of the UK around on TV and laughing at them while pretending to care. The Jeremy Kyle show airs daily to students and stay at home mums in it’s mid morning slot. It’s actually compulsive viwng, you want to look away desperately but just can’t take your eyes off the train wrecks on the screen. This isn’t actually a clip of the show, but is rather a spoof version by Jon Culshaw recorded for BBC’s ‘Dead Ringers’ show.

Sky Sports Cricket - Monty vs. Ernie Els

Thursday, June 21st, 2007

A bit of a sporting mash up today courtesy of YouTube and Sky Sports…

Sky Sports decided to advertise the upcoming sporting highlights by mixing 2 sports together. We get to see golfer Ernie Els facing one of England’s Monty Panesar’s vicous cricket deliveries. It’s so tempting to go down the route of a ball joke here, but I’ll stand firm and avoid it.

It’s a great advert, and really works in grabbing your attention and putting those dates firmly in your mind. If only all adverts were this inventive, but unfortunately most of them are utter crap.

Remembering Red Dwarf

They’re All Dead Dave by JM

www.fictionscribe.com

100poundstogo.wordpress.com

I was standing in the lounge and frowning at the television when I asked my husband if he remembered that show. That British one… No, not Little Britain… The one with… What for? I’m doing a guest post on Dave’s blog.

That’s when my husband looked at me strangely and asked me why didn’t I do a post about Red Dwarf? Pure genius and so utterly obvious I had to smack my forehead.

Why was it genius and utterly obvious?

Because I hear Red Dwarf.

Red Dwarf is one piece of British genius that makes my heart beat a little faster. (Actually, that would be the dreadlocked Dave Lister, but we won’t tell my husband that.)

Mitchell And Webb Clips

Wednesday, May 16th, 2007

To celebrate Mitchell and Webb making, and releasing their first film, called ‘Magicians’, I thought I’d look back to last year, and their brilliant first series of ‘That Mitchell and Webb look’.

David Mitchell and Robert Webb are British comedians, who started on Play UK, before transferring their sketch show to BBC radio 4. As happened with ‘Little Britain’, the BBC know when they’re on to a good thing, and it wasn’t long before a full BBC2 show was commissioned, and aired at the end of last year. A second series is being made, and is due to air at the end of this year. They are also the geniuses behind ‘Peep Show’, that oh so strange Channel 4 sitcom where the cameras often shoot from the characters point of view, and we get to hear what they are thinking rather than saying.

YouTube - Star Trek Meets Monty Python

Wednesday, May 2nd, 2007

I thought it was time to take a leaf out of the YouTube Digger’s book… he’s a great guy, funny, devilishly handsome, and also very modest! So I’m going to start trawling the archives for some clips which will fit on Pop Buzz UK, and show some funny, clever, and downright genius moments from British pop culture.

We start with a clip combining one of the great American sci-fi shows with probably the daddy of classic alternative comedy, as I present to you Star Trek meets Monty Python! Dun dun dunhhhhhh…

British Sheep Sold To The Japanese As Poodles

Friday, April 27th, 2007

Sheep…. Dogs…. they look different right? You could tell the difference, even after downing a few (dozen) pints of beer yes? Well, apparently thousands of Japanese people couldn’t tell the two species apart, and spent $1,600 a piece on what they thought were designer poodles!

Soccer AM - Pearl Diving

Wednesday, April 11th, 2007

This isn’t brand new but it’s so good, and I’ve only just found it on YouTube so thought I’d post. The clip shows Pearl Heanen, an old lady from Australia who started diving once she hit OAP status and does it in a really funny way.

Daytime Soap Neighbours Swearing Shocker

Friday, March 23rd, 2007

Neighbours is a cheesy daytime soap opera that is made and shown in Australia but is actually bigger here in the UK. It’s shown twice a day on BBC1, at 1.30pm and 5.30pm and has been for 10 years or so. That’s why there was shock here this week when an episode was shown which supposedly shows one of the young characters referring to another character as “Paul f**king Robinson“. The clip is above and I’ve watched it a number of times, and to me it is as clear as day they are saying the F word in all it’s sinful glory! Even taking in to account the affected Australian accent, I still think it’s the full on swear word rather than a less obtuse version. There has been speculation it’s ‘Fricking‘ or ‘Fecking‘ but not for me, no way Jose. Which begs the question of how did it get past those editors and arbiters of good taste the BBC?

What do you think is being said? Carry on the debate by leaving a comment, the more the merrier, and I always try to reply.

Hot Fuzz Film Preview

Wednesday, February 21st, 2007

This is the new film by Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright, best known for the excellent ‘Shaun Of The Dead’. Coming out last Wednesday (Valentines Day) in the UK, March 15th in Australia and April 20th in America, it’s another comedy very much in the same mould as SOTD. The pairing of Simon Pegg and Nick Frost again get together as a brilliant double act, playing off each other and delivering some classic lines. The cast also includes former Bond Timothy Dalton, the brilliant Jim Broadbent and Billy Whitelaw. (more…)

Association Football - A Guide

Thursday, January 18th, 2007

A guide to football, or soccer, at least according to Harry Enfield And Chums. I thought this might prove useful to anyone, particularly Americans who are just now getting into the sport that is soccer, maybe because of David Beckham’s recent mega money move to L.A. Galaxy, maybe for some more convoluted reason. So sit back and enjoy a quick 3 minute guide to Association football… (more…)

Leo Sayer Leaves Big Brother And Looks Like A ****

Monday, January 15th, 2007

Obviously the word in the post title is actually ‘Plum’, I would never venture to call the man that is Leo Sayer any 4 letter word worse than that but still…

For those of you who aren’t having the pleasure and sometimes pain of watching this year’s Celebrity Big Brother, Leo Sayer sensationally left the house on Friday morning (Hours before he was due to be evicted) because Big Brother wouldn’t provide him with any clean underwear. The fact that there were washing provisions provided and every other celebrity whose taken part, not only this year, has managed to lower themselves enough to wash their own smalls, seemed to be beyond the 70s pop midget.
He decided he’d had enough, smashed open a fire exit door and escaped into the hands of security guards and producers. (more…)
