Brian Belo Wins Big Brother 8 | Live Final Review, Thoughts On 2007 Series & Future Of Show

by Dave Parrack

Brian Belo Big BrotherIt’s over, yes that 12 weeks of blissful summer television viewing that was Big Brother 8 has come to an end. Thankfully I got the result I wanted on Friday night as Brian Belo (short for Bellend, at least in my head) emerged victorious from his 3 month long incarceration.

The bookies had twins Samanda (Sam & Amanda) as hot favourites to win the thing, but Brian beat those improbable odds and won through in the end with over 60% of the vote.

The final was great, with Davina wearing red for a change, maybe she’s now worn every black dress there is in the world. The format was the usual 2 parter, with 3 people being evicted in the first half and 3 in the second. The amount of time each evicted house mate had to be interviewed was disappointingly short, but apart from Carole and Ziggy, none of them had much to say anyway.

I’ve liked Brian ever since he entered the house, and desperately wanted him to win, especially over the pink twins. He’s the one house mate who has been on a journey this year, which seems to be the mark of a winner these days.

He entered the house emotionally stunted and well, not to be unkind but quite thick. While he’s still no Stephen Hawking, he does at least have a fair idea of who Shakespeare is now.

Brian’s Best Bits!

This series, Big Brother 8, has ended up being the least watched Big Brother ever, which makes no sense to me, as I thoroughly enjoyed. It didn’t reach the dizzyingly good heights of Big Brother 2 and 3, but it did beat 4 with Cameron, the most dour and boring winner ever.

This series will probably be remembered for Charley and her constant arguing. My favourite was when she confronted Brian while wearing a clown suit. And also the Chiggy saga, with both Ziggy and Chanelle ending up looking like muppets over their on/off romantic behaviour in the house.

I think this year will see the house mates disappear more quickly and completely than any other year. I can’t see Brian being hired to do anything showbiz, it’s just not him. The twins will pose topless at least once and then everyone will be bored of looking at their fried egg breasts.

Charley will try and outdo Nasty Nick Bateman, the original love to hate figure, and fail miserably. She will probably get a footballer boyfriend out of it though, lucky them.

As for the rest of them, I’ve forgotten what they looked like already. Back to the day jobs guys, your five minutes of fame are up.

The big question is where do Channel 4 and Endemol go with the series now? They’ve already announced that there will be no Celebrity Big Brother next year, meaning my January is probably going to boring. Will they ditch Big Brother in 2008 and come back with an updated format in 2009?

If they do, I’d actually have to something more constructive with my summer than the usual 3 month sabbatical in front of Channel 4 and E4 watching a bunch of strangers snog, argue, eat and sleep.
