Bloc Party - I Still Remember
Here’s the new video from British Indie Rock pioneers Bloc Party called ‘I Still Remember’. The 2nd single released from the 2nd album in the UK, making it’s debut next Monday April 9th, following on from where ‘The Prayer’ left off. It’s already been out in America for some time, reaching number 26 in the modern rock chart over there, a poor showing for such a quality song.
The song itself, and lyrics reminisce about those friendships from lead singer Kele Okeroke’s earlier life at school where the relationship never went beyond a certain point, even though it was obvious one of the parties wanted it to. From an interview Kele gave The Observer newspaper in January of this year, it seems obvious that it was particularly referencing the situation where two straight boys have an attraction, or there being an attraction that’s unspeakable between them. It makes for an interesting back story to the song, and the band’s sound frames the lyrics perfectly.
The video, made by ‘Aggressive’ follows a train journey, probably echoing the journey through Kele’s life that the song follows to a certain degree. I think it works well, although watching it in low resolution on YouTube does make you feel a bit travel sick from time to time.
Not the best song on the album ‘A Weekend In The City‘ but excellent none the less. The next single ‘Hunting For Witches’ is the one to watch out for though so I’ll be sure to review it and reveal all the release details nearer the time.
Song Rating: 8/10 Video Rating: 8/10 Overall: 8/10
