Blender Magazine’s 50 Worst Music Artists
I recently found this article billed as ‘The 50 worst artists in music history’ on Digg and after reading it I had to share it with my readers. Not because it’s excellent, essential reading, not because it got it all spot on. No but rather because it is atrocious, there are so many mistakes it’s unbelievable. I suppose I shouldn’t say that because music and our taste in it are personal and individual so what is one man’s Nirvana is another man’s Kenny G. Following that train of thought though, they shouldn’t have even printed such an article or set about trying to tell us who are the “50 worst artists in music history. It might be their choice of such but it’s certainly not mine.
So what do I agree with and what do I think is an insult to some great bands?
Who shouldn’t be there in my opinion? The Gipsy Kings, The Spin Doctors, Rick Wakeman, Blind Melon, Arrested Development, Mick Jagger and Jamiroquai .They are all great artists, and some of my favourites. But I’ve left the best until last… The Doors! How on earth can they even get close to a list of this sort, they were class, and had some massive songs that have stood the test of time. Terrible choice.

I must say I have to agree with the following though… Mike And The Mechanics, Japan, Richard Marx, Celine Dion, Latoya Jackson, Vanilla Ice, Kenny G and Michael Bolton. They are in my opinion some of the worst acts to ever grace (or disgrace) the music charts. But I’m sure there are people reading this that own albums by them and play them on repeat. As I say it’s personal choice and that’s why I think this sort of list is pretty pointless in the end. They are designed to make you agree to a certain point but also to have you saying, “No Way, How can they include them. And what have I just done? Given them publicity. Oh well, back to the drawing board… I’ll just go and put some Doors classics on.
What do you think to the list? Pointless? Correct? Any nominations for who should have been included? Let me know.
