Beckham Signs For L.A. Galaxy!
The back pages moved to the front pages of the tabloids yesterday and today as speculation and finally confirmation of footballer David Beckham’s move to a new club. Currently the superstar and former England captain plys his very lucrative career for Real Madrid in Spain but with his £120,000 a week contract coming to an end, both the club and player decided the time was ripe to move on..

He signed to the Spanish giants from Manchester United for £25 million 4 years ago, at the height of not only his footballing skills but marketing potential. But life has been hard… well, as hard as life can be on that sort of money. Not only has he and the club failed to win any medal during his tenure, he’s been left out of the first team, commonly known as the Galacticos. Then there’s been his failure to deceive at international level, with performance levels depleting until finally new England manager Steve McClaren dropped him from the squad altogether.
Beckham’s personal life has seen some headline grabbing controversy over the last few years too, with his alleged rendezvous with Rebecca Loos the lowlight. Full-time mum Victoria has stuck by him through all of this though… nothing to do with the lifestyle that the couple have become accustomed to I’m sure.
So, the choice Beckham has been facing is whether to stay at Real, with the last few years of his career being spent on the bench as a bit part player. Or to move abroad, to either France, England, Italy, or most enticing to the USA. Yesterday afternoon he finally plumped for the latter with the Los Angeles Galaxy winning his signature, but paying £128,000 a week for it in a five year deal. That means oodles of cash for not only Beckham, but for the Major League Soccer club itself who may make more in return than they layout on Beckham’s worldwide brand. According to the papers today, the Real money men would have loved to keep him at the club as he brings in more than enough revenue and sponsorship money to cover his and another couple of players wages. That’s not to mention new fans from around the world, especially Asia, who idolise the midfielder, on and off the field.

The Daily Mirror were very helpful for Beckham’s new move stateside, giving us this handy guide called
‘A Beckham-American Phrasebook’…
English: Hi, I’m David. Meet my wife Victoria and kids Brooklyn, Romeo and Cruz.
American: Yo. I’d like y’all to meet my gal Victoria. She’s mom to my kids Brooklyn, Romeo and Cruz. They’re gonna love being stateside. One of them is named after a place here and the other after my Hollywood buddy Tom.
English: My specialities are scoring, curling, free kicks and beating keepers from long range.
American: You let me take all the swerving free punts around the 18-yard offense line and I’ll beat the goaltender every time -period.
English: Britain knows me as much for my fashion trends, jewellry and haircuts as for my football.
American: I love my bling, my sneakers and my sweaters almost as much as my soccer. I’m the best dressed guy on the ballpark.
So, with this move to the US going through at the end of the season in August, expect to hear London born, Manchester bred Becks to start talking like Earl Hickey very soon!

Has it come to the point now, where David is such a major celebrity that everyone feels like they have to celebrate him needlessly and baby his delusions of grandeur? Fair enough he used to play a good game of football, but he’s rubbish now compared to some of the others that are out there!
Is he the next Michael Jackson type, where he seems to get paid for doing not much at all really and given awards for just being him? I think I noticed this trend when he got his OBE. *tsk* Just think what a charity or a hospital could do with a million quid a week!
