Asbo Teen To Beauty Queen
A new series started on British TV channel Five last night, which takes 9 tearaway teens and tries to turn them into Beauty Pageant contestants. The nine young girls from Manchester, England have all, at one time in their lives, been in trouble with the law. ASBO stands for Anti Social Behaviour Order, and is issued to underage troublemakers (or scumbags as they’re generally known) in the UK.
The girls, once picked, turn up in their normal clothes, tracksuits and England tops, with an attitude where they are always right and know everything, everyone else is wrong. Then they’re introduced to Michelle Fryatt (Pictured above), former American beauty queen and glamorous 39-year-old mother of one. She first stuns them by playing a video of a typical Beauty pageant, the posing, dancing and general cheesiness. Then she gets tough and lets them know who is boss. Her job is to turn these mischievous maidens from Manchester into potential contestants for Miss Teen International. Not an easy job, and not one I’d relish or try to take on!
Every week one of the girls is chucked out of the running as the least likely to become a beauty queen. In the first episode, the girls were given a makeover, each being shown the make up and clothes they’d be expected to maintain to have a chance of entering the pageant. Given £100, they were sent out to buy their own dresses and accessories, with differing success. They were then given 45 minutes to prepare themselves before being judged by Michelle and a couple of other fashion experts.
The girls (One of which, Laura Wilde is pictured above) will be whittled down over the 6 episode series to just 3 finalists who will then compete for the place as the UK’s first representative in the Annual American beauty pageant. I guess we’ll find out if once a little scrote, always a little scrote, is true or not and I for one will be watching with interest.

Apparently the format has been pickd up by other countries with a slight name change of “Tearaway Teens to Beauty Queens” so look out for it.
