A Very Merry Muslim Christmas Album

No I’m not taking the mickey with that title, this is the true story of an album that has been produced called ‘A Very Merry Muslim Christmas Album’. It’s been made by a group of Muslim listeners to Talk radio host Nick Ferrari’s show on London radio station LBC. It’s in response to previous years Christmas seasons where Muslims in the UK have been left out of the holiday and also political correctness has gone too far and non-Christians have been blamed for the banning of various things to do with Christmas.
According to the website “The idea for this project came about last Christmas after a never-ending series of headlines claiming Muslims objected to lights being switched on, shops being decorated or even the word ‘Christmas’ being used. All utter nonsense, of course, and the Nick Ferrari Muslim Ensemble (shown above) proves this. Watching the children recording this was to glimpse the true spirit of Christmas…. happiness, enjoyment, togetherness.â€?
Nick Ferrari is known as a right wing talk radio host in the UK and presents the breakfast show on LBC. His shows are often controversial as he takes a line he knows most listeners may not agree with, playing devil’s advocate. In 2003 the Broadcasting Standards Committee upheld a complaint against Ferrari, finding that his programme’s “active reinforcement of prejudiced views about asylum seekers had exceeded acceptable boundaries for transmission”. He now has London mayor Ken Livingstone as a regular guest to answer questions from listeners, although the 2 men’s opinions are diametrically opposed.

I don’t know what his reasons for doing this are, or what he has to gain. I don’t even know if he or the singers taking part in the recording were paid for their time. This whole concept does all seem a bit strange to me but if it gets people from other religions taking part in Christmas this year, I won’t complain. After all I’m of no fixed religion and I celebrate it wholeheartedly every year. It’s more about consumerism and greed than any religious festival these days anyway.
