8th Harry Potter Book A Possibility? - Author JK Rowling Reveals Truth On Future Books
As soon as the seventh and supposedly final Harry Potter book ‘The Deathly Hallows‘ was released, fans and book lovers alike started speculating about the possibility of an eighth book securing a release one day.
That possibility came a step nearer this week as Harry Potter author JK Rowling admitted that she had considered it, and certainly wouldn’t rule it out.
Talking to Time magazine, the author admitted there had been times when she’d thought about penning another installment in the long running, and hugely successful franchise, which is estimated to have earned her a billion dollar fortune.
“There have been times since finishing, weak moments, when I’ve said: ‘Yeah, all right’ to the eighth novel.”
“If, and it’s a big if, I ever write an eighth book about the (wizarding) world, I doubt that Harry would be the central character. I feel I’ve already told his story. But these are big ifs. Let’s give it 10 years.”
At the time of the release, I said on Pop Buzz UK that there would be no reason not to carry on the series, using the same world which we now all know and love, but focussing on another character, or even set of characters than Harry Potter, Ron and Hermione.
There’s even the option for JK to carry on the story where it left off, and see how Harry’s children do at Hogwarts. Whatever she chooses to do, I know I’d welcome the chance to read more from the world of Quidditch and house elves.
Also leaving it ten years or more could see the author grab a whole new generation of fans, as there would be a whole new set of children whose minds she could inhabit with her colourful characters and settings.
In the mean time, Rowling isn’t sitting around enjoying her wealth, but is instead working on two new books. One is said to be an adult novel, although no further details are forthcoming. The other is described as a political fairytale, which sounds intriguing, if not slightly dull.
