05/04/2007 On The British Jukebox This Week…

by Dave Parrack

Carrying on the attempt at educating anyone who thinks British music ended with The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, here is another selection of great music from the UK. It’s all handpicked by me, and whether you think it’s great, OK, or downright unlistenable, just let me know by using ye olde comment box down there!

Hundred Reasons - If I Could

Coldplay - The Scientist

Super Furry Animals - Juxtaposed With U

Catatonia - Road Rage

Radiohead - Paranoid Android

Let me know what you think of the above songs and bands. Have they travelled across the world and made it big in other countries? Have you ever even heard of them? What do you think of British music in general, good or a load of tripe? If any of the songs I’ve featured grabbed you, let me know and I’ll either feature more from that band or write a full feature on them.

My favorite band name here is Super Furry Animals. But my favorite songs here are the Radiohead and Coldplay ones. I am a big Radiohead fan. My favorite albums of theirs are Kid A and Hail to the Thief. I like their older stuff, too, but for my tastes they really became amazing with Kid A.

I was somewhat disappointed with Thom Yorke’s recent solo album…

    Thanks for the music!

  4. Dana Says:

OMG, that Super Furry Animals song was amazing.

  5. Ian Says:

British music not having ended with The Beatles and The Stones but I did think for a while that Coldplay might actually cause the World to end. How about trying a different tempo? Still it could be worse, they could be Star Sailor…

IMHO Radiohead are by far the best group Britain has produced for, what, 20 years?

  6. Deanna Says:

I’m not a big fan of Coldplay, but I did like the Hundred Reasons song. I’ll have to check them out more. I think I’ll be stuck listening to Radiohead for the rest of the day though. They are one of those bands that I love but have to be in just the right mood to listen to.

  7. DaveP Says:

Emma, I love the Super Furry Animals name, and they had some great songs too.
I’m the opposite from you, in that I like Radiohead’s older stuff, The Bends being in my top 10 albums of all time.

Dana, good isn’t it! Glad you enjoyed it.

Ian, Coldplay could still cause the world to end ;) I actually like Starsailor! Pah, I might feature them next week, just for you.

Dee, Hundred Reasons kick serious butt! I agree, you are either in a radiohead mood or definitely not lol
